James Longford is one of the UK’s foremost collaborative pianists. With support from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust James studied at the Royal College of Music where he won the Tagore Gold Medal and all the prizes for accompaniment, and was made a Junior Fellow in 2000.

Performances with a variety of singers and ensembles have since taken him to many major UK venues, such as the Barbican Hall, Wigmore Hall, Snape Maltings, St John's Smith Square and St Martin-in-the-Fields, while abroad he has performed in Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Ireland, the Middle East, South Africa, the US and throughout the Baltic States.

He also works as a repetiteur and orchestral pianist with a variety of organizations – Aldeburgh Opera, Britten Sinfonia, Gabrieli Consort, Polyphony, Southbank Sinfonia, Orchestra of St John's Smith Square, Holst Singers, I Fagiolini, East London Chorus, London Pro Arte Orchestra, BT Scottish Ensemble, London Strings, and The Opera Group to name a few. James is one half of the longfordbrownpianoduo with the New Zealand pianist Lindy Tennent-Brown, which won third prize and high acclaim in the 14th International Schubert Competition in 2005.
