ALL ABOUT THE RFMS

choir1.jpg

WHO ARE WE?

the beginning

In September 1999 an independent society - The Royal Free Music Society (RFMS), was founded.

the past

A choir of students and staff were originally formed in 1995 for the occasion of the Memorial Service for the Founder of the Royal Free Hospital, William Marsden. The choir continued to meet as part of the Royal Free Medical School Music Society.

growth

We sing a variety of music. Performances have included Britten's Ceremony of Carols, Fauré's Requiem, Mozart's Requiem, Mozart's Grand Mass in C Minor and several concerts of light music. One concert was in collaboration with a visiting choir from Linkoping University in Sweden. We have been invited to sing in the chapels of several London Hospitals and often sing the services in the Royal Free Hospital chapel. We have also appeared live on the promotional video for the local pub. For the major works an orchestra of hospital members and their friends are formed.

the future

We continue to grow and develop. Each year we try and choose music which is varied and challenging. The committee select the music and are always open to suggestions from anywhere they can get them.

The best way to find us is to turn right out of Belsize Park Tube Station (Northern Line) and walk up the hill, past the shops. When you get to The George pub, turn right down the driveway and into the Medical School at the bottom of the hill.

The Peter Samuel Hall is up the stairs at the end of the corridor and turn right through the fire doors then take a quick left - you'll find a pair of wooden double doors.
