all about us The Royal Free Music Society was founded in 1999 making this our 10th anniversary year! Our membership is drawn from present and former staff, friends, members of the local populations and many others. We have approximately 40 members and come together to indulge in high quality music making whilst having fun. We meet on a weekly basis, but check out the rehearsal schedule on the website, and produce four main concerts a year. We have a sister orchestra, the Hampstead Sinfonietta and you can find a link to their website on our home page. We are fortunate to be able to count St. Mark’s Church in Primrose Hill as a regular venue for our performances. Recent performances include Mozart’s Requiem, Schubert’s Mass in G, and Faure’s Requiem as well as an annual Christmas concert. Last summer we performed at the Great Braxted Arts Festival in Essex and enjoyed a weekend together. So you can see we are a sociable bunch. Our style is one of informality backed up by hard work We are always looking for new members and provide a supportive atmosphere in which to get your singing voice into shape. We don’t audition but the musical director is always willing to give you some guidance if you are not sure what your voice range is.We do expect members to do some ‘homework’ between rehearsals so that we make the lost of our time together. The midi files on this website are designed to support that and are a fantastic resource for members. Our membership rates are very competitive: £70 for the full year or £20 a term. You can come and try us out for a week or two to try us out. To get in touch click on the email icon below. We look forward to hearing from you. |

We rehearse The best way to find us is to turn right out of Belsize Park Tube Station (Northern Line) and walk up the hill, past the shops. When you get to The George pub, turn right down the driveway (Rowland Hill Street), past the building with the scary statue of Mary stuck to its wall (on the right) and into the Medical School at the bottom of the hill. All of this is a 10 minute walk. The door to the Medical School is at the bottom of the hill, on the left, just after you turn the corner. The Peter Samuel Hall is up one flight of the stairs at the end of the corridor (straight ahead of you from the entrance) and turn right through the fire doors then take a quick left - you'll find a pair of wooden double doors. |
